Another snippet of Guinness World Records: Gamers Edition news has come in, which seems to be a plausible reason for us to start a dedicated site for Guinness related news. Anyways, game creator Sid Meier, the creator of the Sid Meier Civilization game franchise is the industry’s most awarded game developer, a record duly recognized in the Guinness World Records: Gamer’s Edition 2008. This announcement was made by 2k Games in a statement on May 29, 2008. In case you are not aware, Meier happens to be the Director of Creative Development at 2K-owned Firaxis Games development studio.
Sid Meir has won countless awards and, perhaps, too many for 2K Games to count as they didn’t mention the number in the statement. The honors that have been bestowed upon him include a lifetime achievement award at the Game Developers Conference Awards 2008, induction into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame and the Computer Museum of America’s Hall of Fame in 1999 and 2002 respectively. Besides that he received a star on the Walk of Game in 2006. Many of his games have also done exceptionally well when it comes to awards.
Sid Meier considers himself fortunate to be pursuing his current calling. His next title is going to be Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution, which pitchforks the franchise in to the next generation. It is the first time that a game from the franchise will be available on a next-gen console and the DS. It will appear on store-shelves on July 8, 2008m for the Xbox 360, PS3 and DS.
