I was hesitant about SimCity Societies, which is why I didn’t bother buying it when it was released. The whole Societies part of the title threw me. So I was very pleased to hear about the SimCity Societies free demo. On June 12, 2008, EA Games will make a free demo of the game available on the official site.
It seems EA has two goals in releasing this free glimpse at SimCity Societies. It’s pretty obvious that the company wants to lure in curious skeptics with this free trial. EA is counting in people getting hooked and buying the full game to get their sim-fix. But EA is also hoping to show off all of the improvements made to SimCity Societies. EA has been releasing free updates to the game, and this free demo will have some of that additional content included.
Since the demo hasn’t been officially released, information concerning the exact requirements and size aren’t available. Since SimCity Societies is a game for Windows PCs, you’ll likely need Windows for the demo. It could be a hefty download, since there will be a tutorial to train users, a scenario to play through and two unidentified disasters to tackle. The full version of SimCity Societies can be purchased alone for $19.99, or in the forthcoming, $39.99 SimCity Box. Or, if you don’t mind waiting, Shop Goodwill occasionally has copies for SimCity Societies up for auction starting at $4.99.
