The Toys R Us Guitar Hero On Tour bundle
Toys “R” Us is going to be selling a special edition Nintendo DS bundle once Guitar Hero: On Tour is released. The box will feature an embellished silver/black DS lite, the Guitar Hero: On Tour game, the Guitar Grip DS peripheral and a guitar pick stylus. It will be available June 29, 2008 for $179.99.

It really isn’t a great deal, when you think about it. The Guitar Hero: On Tour game with peripheral costs $49.99, and comes with the guitar pic stylus if you preorder at Toys “R” Us. A new DS lite normally costs $129.99. Together, that’s $179.99. So you aren’t missing out on a great deal if you already own a DS – just a system with a new color and design scheme. If you don’t own a DS, and you’d buy one just to play Guitar Hero: On Tour, then it would work out perfectly.

I have to say that the logo on the bundle’s DS is incredibly gaudy. I mean I love the color scheme – the silver and black looks very classy. Or it would look classy, if there wasn’t a Guitar Hero logo. Something a little more, well, low-key would have been nice. The Phantom Hourglass bundle’s gold DS had a nice little Triforce insignia on the cover, in the lower right corner, and the Nintendogs bundle’s pink DS had a nonchalant paw print in the same location. A small guitar or musical note might have been a better choice here. Or perhaps nothing – after all, everyone’s going to be looking at the huge Guitar Grip peripheral, not the DS. I guess this is the kind of situation that merits a DS skin.
