gamertell alienware area 51 m15x laptopAlthough most Alienware products are financially out-of-bounds for many gamers, there are still a few that are not. Take for instance the new Alienware Area-51 m15x gaming notebook which will not plunge too deep in your pockets with prices starting from $1,499 – a clear $1250 less than Alienware’s Area-51 m17x gaming notebook. The relatively cheaper price doesn’t imply compromised performance or quality.

The Area-51 m15x features a 15.4 in. screen and comes in two designs, Skullcap and Ripley. Ripley, a wholly new design, enamors every time it meets the eye while Skullcap is a little somber and idyllic.

The base configuration comes fitted with an Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 with 3MB Cache and 800 MHz FSB. But those who are looking for something more extreme have the option of equipping their m15x with an Intel Core 2 Extreme processor with 6MB Cache and 800 MHz for an additional $900. The m15x comes with an Intel GM965 Chipset and enough room for up to 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 at 667 MHz with 2 dedicated SO-DIMM slots for additional memory.

Unlike the dearer Area-51 m17x the m15x doesn’t have the powerful NVIDIA SLi or ATI Crossfire graphics, the multiple-GPU graphics cards that are a rage these days. The NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX with 512MB graphics memory onboard the m15x isn’t mediocre by any means. With up to 500 GB HDD space and an optional Smart Bay swappable drive there is enough space, though more extravagant geeks would only consider anything close to 1TB a luxury.

If you are still searching for your first HD notebook then this entry-level Alienware notebook is a pretty good deal.
