It’s a given that a kid’s movie is going to get a video game, so I’m sure you’ve all been expecting to hear word of Igor the Game. Well, those of you who even knew about the Igor movie were probably expecting this news. The game will be out in September 2008, to coincide with the September 19, 2008 release of the movie, and will appear on the DS, PC and Wii.
The movie Igor follows one of the Igors, appropriately named Igor (John Cusack). Igor is a mad scientist’s assistant, but he wants to be a mad scientist. He also wants to win the Evil Science Fair, which is probably the mad scientist equivalent of the Nobel Peace Prize. The movie also stars Eddie Izzard, John Cleese, Steve Buscemi, Jay Leno, Jennifer Coolidge, Sean Hayes, Molly Shannon, Christian Slater and Arsenio Hall.
A lot of details about the game aren’t really available yet. Presumably, it will follow events in the film. The PC and Wii versions will encourage multiplayer and co-op play, with Igor, Eva (some kind of robot/golem), Scamper (a cat-thing?) and Brain (a brain) available as playable characters. The DS version will have players mainly playing as Igor, creating monsters to solve puzzles and beat other mad scientists.
I had no idea this movie was even coming out! I adore John Cusack, and was a huge fan of Nightmare before Christmas, and the Igor movie just looks darkly cute. I’m not so sure about the game, but the movie certainly sounds intriguing.
