Daigasso Band Brothers DX box art In a move akin to the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates “Thank you for playing!!” moogle, Nintendo’s latest DS game, Daigasso! Band Brothers DX is also proving to be quite the pirate deterrent. The game refuses to run in many cases, or refuses to allow pirates access to the 200 songs available through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Way to go Nintendo (even if this was unintentional)!

According to information and reports from GBA Temp, this is due to a new save type being used for Daigasso! Band Brothers DX. Apparently, all DS games use 512kb saves, except for Daigasso! DX, which uses a 1mb save. Pirates who download the rom from online and attempt to play will be met with an error screen (serves them right).

Some pirates have managed to maneuver around this, thanks to use of a save file with an established game profile. However, they are unable to access the downloadable songs available through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, so they still lose. The game comes with only about 30 tracks, many of them remixes of classical songs, so the downloadable songs are the major draw with Daigasso! DX.

As someone who owns a copy of the original Daigasso (it was the first game I ever imported), I strongly encourage people to go out and actually buy Daigasso! Band Brothers DX from a reputable website like Play-Asia, Yes Asia or NCSX. Don’t resort to piracy – it’s wrong and illegal. Daigasso! DX is worth buying, as it is a great game with loads of replay value, especially with the 200 extra tracks available. I know when I get paid I’m either splurging on Daigasso! DX or Sekai wa Atashi de Mawatteru.

  1. Nice try, but i already have a save with every single song (Including the 200 songs from Nintendi Wi-fi). =)

  2. You know that when games don't sell well, then it hurts the chances of sequels or more games being released. Sales are especially crucial in terms of Japanese games – if a game doesn't do well in Japan, chances are it will never be released in other countries.

If you like the game Kusume, then you really should purchase the original game. Don't you want to be able to save it and come back and play it often? Don't you want to share it with your kids? Discuss with them how "back in the day" this was cutting edge?

  3. Isn't it Subarashii Kono Sekai? Or did you just feel like translating the English title to baffle us and make us google it up. :P

  4. I like the game, i have the original Daigasso (Not DX), but i dislike that 100 musics limit. With the flashcard i can hear every single song and play them. I'll buy the original at play-asia, but i have to play the game before buying… There's a lot of musics i don't know in the game and i wanna test cause i can't delete downloaded musics ;(
It sound like: Hehehe, i don't buy originals, but i have Pokemon, Daigasso, Taiko no Tatsujin and a few other games i like which i've played in a flashcard.

  5. @ Wikipedia: Hi – I think you may have commented on the wrong story. Daigasso! Band Brothers DX is the official title for the game. The official Japanese name for the game would be Daigasso! Bando Burazazu DX, if you just read the katakana literally.

Perhaps you're thinking about the Square Enix game The World Ends with You aka Subarashiki Kono Sekai: It's a Wonderful World?

@ Kusume: As long as you have the original (or your copy of the original is on its way from Play-Asia), then I can definitely understand the reasoning behind wanting a version you can play on your flashcard so you can play all the songs.

  6. This didn't really "foil" anyone. With certain (simple) patching, flashcarts can now use full 8MB sav files. The only reason I do this instead of purchasing the actual game is that it gives me the ability to test all of the DLC before making any final decisions. If I can come up with a 100 song list that I would like to keep (since it's permanent), then I'll probably end up buying it. Well, I'll probably end up getting it anyway, but that will be at a later time..

  7. That does make sense Bkid.

Actually, if you're interested in buying, Play-Asia is having a summer sale where all in-stock items are 25% off.
