E3 is so close you can practically smell it, and the major industry players are gearing up for all the big announcements, unveilings, and demos you can shake a joystick at. Microsoft has had quite an interesting year with the Xbox 360 – despite its being beaten by the PS3 in hardware sales the last few months, it’ still absolutely the system of choice for tons of hardcore gamers, and it arguably boasts the highest percentage of super-anticipated games going into this year’s E3. We’ve picked out a few of the games we’re most excited to see at the show – at least, of the games we already know about.

Gears of War 2 – After Gears of War proved that next-gen is now in 2006 with incredible (if “brown”) graphics and kick-ass online multiplayer, fans have been awaiting the second game like the second coming. This is arguably the Xbox 360 game of this holiday season (barring any big announcements).

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts – Rare’s biggest game of the show is a DIY reinvention of the beloved Nintendo 64 platformers. Blending a 3d mascot game with vehicle creation and gorgeous graphics, Banjo is one to watch.

Fable 2 – Peter Molyneux’s ultra-ambitious RPG is still supposed to come out this year, but we’re a bit skeptical about the date. Look for more details at the show.

Too Human – We’ve heard good and we’ve heard… not-so-good things about Silicon Knights’ ambitious new title. We’ll just have to see what the reception will be next week.

Dead Space – Ok, so it’s multiplatform (slated for the PS3 and PC as well), and it may not turn out to be a BioShock-killer, but this action heavy EA take on survival-horror in space looks mighty interesting.

Monday morning (the day of the MS press event) can’t come soon enough.
