Defendin' De PenguinDefendin’ De Penguin, scheduled to be released later this month (July 2008), is probably one of the most unique games to appear on the Nintendo DS and Wii platforms this year. It is the first real-time strategy game on both consoles that are aimed at children. However you don’t have to be a child to get a kick out of a penguin creating weapons to defend itself. It’s what Morgan Freeman would have wanted. (That was a March of the Penguins joke. Okay, moving on).

The story behind Defendin’ De Penguin is simple. You control Little Blue, a penguin that must protect his towns supply of fish from hungry invaders. You’ll be taking on snapping turtles, wooly mammoths, and even snow men in your adventure. In order to do that you must place unique defense weapons around the town to keep the enemies from gorging on your fish supply. Each mechanism has certain abilities that make short work of some creatures while barely scratching others. The key to winning lies in knowing which towers to build as well as where and when to place them.

There are eight unique towers in the game. Each one can be upgraded to extend their power and range. To upgrade your towers Little Blue needs to earn money by fishing. Since you are a penguin, the majority of your ammunition will come from your environment. Expect to see an array of ice cubes, frost attacks, and snowballs at your disposal.
