Warner Bros. is taking a slightly different approach to producing a videogame tie-in to a movie. Given that history of movie-based games as being, well, less than stellar, Warner Bros. has decided to release at least two episodes via digital distribution. The first episode will run alongside the film while the second will arrive when The Watchmen is realsed on DVD.
According to Variety, this method insures that the game will receive more development time which will result in a better gaming experience. Samantha Ryan, the VP of production and development for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said,” We don’t want a low-quality console game that will get lost at retail. A downloadable game allows us to deliver the experience that fans expect.”
We can assume Warner Bros. is experimenting with this new method of making successful games based off movies. If successful we could possibly see more companies delivering games this way. The only problem is getting movie companies to go along with the idea. Even though movie games are usually bad, they tend to sell like crazy.
