Though the book series is completed, the fans still go on in the case of Harry Potter. The latest big event is the fan convention being held in Chicago this weekend. From August 7 to 11, 2008, downtown Chicago will be host to a slew of series’ fans. The event, known as Terminus, will feature Quidditch matches, a vendor area, a talk show, keynote presentations by Cheryl Klein and Tamora Pierce, a Wizard Rock concert, fan-creation displays, workshops, exploratory programming and academic programming. The event is taking place at the Chicago Hilton.
There is also going to be an extra, pre-convention concert. The Wrock Chicago concert is going on tomorrow (August 6, 2008) at the Hilton Chicago Hotel. Wrock Chicago is going to be a massive event, with 30 bands inspired by the Harry Potter series performing on three different stages from 11am to 5pm, and then from 7pm to 1am. That event is an extra $20 for people who have registered for Terminus, and $30 for those who haven’t. Some of the bands scheduled to appear are Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Switchblade Kittens and The Whomping Willows.
Though Terminus is only two years old (the convention was founded in 2005), it is expected to draw a large number of fans to the Chicago area. If all this sounds interesting to you, you can still get in. For $200, paid at the event, you can experience all five days of Terminus, participate in every event, discussion and game, receive two meals and get a special t-shirt. You can also purchase $60 one-day passes on from August 8-10.
