CD Projekt RED and one2tribe have announced that there will be premium services and items coming to the free-to-play, browser-based title The Witcher: Versus, a game based on The Witcher. The premium content will supposedly not grant an obscene amount of powers to those who pay – instead it will make it easier to manage items and fights, among other things. The additional service options will be added in the coming months.
The Witcher: Versus is almost like an online dueling ground. You first choose a character class – witcher, sorceress or frightener (a kind of monster). Then you are asked to side with either the humans or the rebel elves. Then you’re thrust into the game. Initially, you start with nothing and no real explanation. You have no money, you aren’t trusted much and you don’t have many skills. By challenging other players online in the arena, you grow. Battles don’t take place in real time – instead, you select what four attack and defense skills you’ll use, then hit fight. You can check on your home screen if people you’ve challenged accept your attacks, and then watch how the fight went.
The only gripe I have is that you have to actually watch how each fight went. The game won’t just tell you who won or lost. Its a small matter though, since fight videos don’t take long to watch, and offer options to share the fight or seek revenge after they’re over. I’d strongly recommend The Witcher: Versus. I created an account just to get some screen shots and see how it played, and ended up really enjoying it. Its an entertaining, free browser game.
