All pets in Mabinogi cost real money. This means you can’t just pick one without at least a little thought. After all, you don’t want to spend $5 on a pet that isn’t going to compliment and assist your character.

Your best bet is to learn about the best parts of all the pets available so you can make an informed decision before adopting.

Getting Started

I’d suggest going with two pets for your primary character and one for any secondary characters you may play as. For the two primary pets, go for those that compliment each other. Perhaps choose one pet that boosts critical hits or one who boosts strength. Then, for the secondary characters’ pets, choose pets that directly affect those characters’ strengths.

Below is a list of all the Mabinogi pets organized by the type of player who will get the best use out of each pet. Some pets may fit in multiple categories due to the versatility of their skills and abilities.

Mabinogi Labrador Retriever

Pets for Beginners

These are pets that can take care of themselves. Some pets may accidentally die right when you need them because of low stamina or HP stats. A pet may also not be able to use healing items or spells on your character when you need it. These pets are fairly well rounded and will work well with any kind of player. I personally recommend the Japanese Bobtail and Mini Bear since both are very strong and versatile pets that handle themselves well. In fact, I found the Japanese Bobtail was a fierce little fighter who leveled up quickly and often defeated opponents before my character could even get in her first swing.

  • Mini Bear – 7,500 NX/$7.50, dances if you play music, good sized inventory, boosts owner’s HP and Stamina stats.
  • Labrador Retriever – 6,400 NX/$6.40, huge inventory space (6×9 spaces), boosts owner’s HP and Strength stats.
  • Japanese Bobtail – 2,900 NX/$2.90, gains exp quickly, fairly high MP, boosts owner’s Critical Hit skill.
  • Dalmation – 4,000 NX/$4.00, boosts owner’s Critical Hit skill, boosts owner’s HP and Strength stats.
  • Golden Retriever – 5,900 NX/$5.90, large inventory (6×8 spaces), boosts owner’s HP and Strength stats.
  • Yellow Jindo – 2,900 NX/$2.90, long summon time (116 minutes), boosts owner’s HP and Stamina stats.

Mabinogi Mini Bear

Pets for Artisans/Craftsmen

Since there are many different ways to earn experience and money in Mabinogi, some players may decide to level up and make their way through the game by creating items, cooking, sewing, mining or making music. These people may want a pet who can carry extra items for them, perform special tricks while they do their jobs or find items for them. Be advised that some of these pets are mainly used to produce materials and aren’t ideal battle companions. The Mini Bear is your best bet, so if you decide to venture into dungeons, you have a strong pet to support you.

  • Mini Bear – 7,500 NX/$7.50, dances if you play music, good sized inventory, boosts owner’s HP and Stamina stats.
  • Albino King Snake – 4,800 NX/$4.80, dances if you play music, can use Lightning Bolt, Fire Bolt, Ice Bolt and Healing spells, boosts owner’s MP and Intelligence stats.

Mabinogi Borzoi

Pets for Warriors

All of these pets have either innate abilities or special skills that are perfect for hand-to-hand warriors. These pets are strong and pack a punch. Also, these pets will likely boost your characters’ strength, defense or other stats that will impact physical attacks. The Gray Wolf is a strong companion with great skills that I enjoy using with my warrior character but, since it can’t use healings spells or rest early on, you need to watch out for it.

  • Borzoi – 5,200 NX/$5.20, transforms when a person transforms into a Paladin, boosts owners’ HP and Will stats.
  • Greyhound – 4,600 NX/$4.60, transforms when a person transforms into a Paladin, boosts owners’ Stamina and Will stats.

  • Gray Wolf – 4,900 NX/$4.90, knows Smash and Counterattack at level 1, boosts owner’s HP, Strength and Stamina stats.

Mabinogi Albino King Snake

Pets for Mages

These pets are a magic users’ best friends. They can most likely use a wide variety of magic spells and also boost owners stats that relate to spell casting. While magic users may benefit most from these, warrior-style players may want to invest in one to cast magic spells during battle. The Brown Fox is a huge help and I’ve noticed significant benefits when I use it with my healer character and my warrior character.

  • Albino King Snake – 4,800 NX/$4.80, dances if you play music, can use Lightning Bolt, Fire Bolt, Ice Bolt and Healing spells, boosts owner’s MP and Intelligence stats.
  • Samoyed – 6,200 NX/$6.20, finds items, can tell if a chest is real or a mimic, large inventory (6×8 spaces), boosts owner’s Stamina and Intelligence stats.
