PS3 owners rock with Rock Band 2 on Sunday, PS2 and Wii owners must wait till December

PS3 owners will finally have their turn at the glory and fame that comes with Rock Band 2 on October 19, 2008. Well, virtual glory and fame. A little over a month after the Xbox 360 release on September 14, 2008, PS3 owners will be able to claim a copy of Rock Band 2 for $59.99. Or, they can pick up the Special Edition bundle (that comes with instruments) for $189.99. The Xbox 360 Special Edition Rock Band 2 bundle will also be available for the first time this Sunday, and will also cost $189.99.

The news isn’t all sunny though. A shadow has been cast across the PS2 and Wii versions of Rock Band 2 – a shadow called delay. Originally, the PS2 and Wii versions of the game were expected to be released on November 16, 2008, but the press release announcing the PS3 version of Rock Band 2‘s release also revealed that the PS2 and Wii versions won’t be out until December, 2008.

This delay is regrettable. Rock Band 2 is easily going to be a big seller this holiday season, and this recent revelation concerning the PS2 and Wii editions could make them a scarce commodity. If you’re hoping to pick up one of those versions for someone on your gift list, it may be a wise idea to place a pre-order.
