Yes it’s a big let down that Resident Evil 5 won’t be coming out this year along with all the other big games but we will still get our yearly Resident Evil fix. It won’t be a game this time around but instead the animated feature Resident Evil: Degeneration is coming to home video, guaranteeing we get our annual dose of RE creepiness all the same. Degeneration will be coming out on December 30, 2008 on Blu-ray, DVD and PSP.
Degeneration is a computer-generated movie that takes place seven years after Raccoon City was destroyed by the government. This time our zombie splattering heroes are trapped inside Harvardville airport when an outbreak of zombie madness jumps off. Some familiar faces in the movie include Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 and Claire Redfield from Resident Evil: Code Veronica. The plot for the movie is about a terrorist (who would’ve thought?) named Curtis who is so obsessed with revenge he releases the virus into the airport before shooting himself full of the G virus.
The special features on the discs includes a look at RE 5, character profiles and an interview with Leon himself. The Blu-ray version of the film will have picture-in-picture capabilities so you can feel cool while doing some on-screen multi-tasking during the movie.
There should be some twists and nods to the Resident Evil franchise that fans can pick up on. There has to be something in the movie about Wesker as he’s always got his hand in something. We’ll know for sure before 2008 comes to a close.
