Rumor: Sony may soon offer more rewards than just pixelated Trophies

Unlocking a Trophy while playing a game on the PS3 is wholly satisfying. Its seems one second you’re racking up the head shots and the next second that little sparkling sound effect comes through the speakers.

Before today (October 20, 2008) gaining Trophies was just a testament of dedication in doing a specific task in a game. In the future gaining a Trophy could mean a special treat is coming to you from Sony.

According to CVG, the issue of the US Official PlayStation Magazine reports that Sony Computer Entertainment of America is “mulling over some sort of Trophy reward system.”

Of course when asked, Sony declined to comment on rumors and speculation. Qore subscribers periodically get first dibs on beta keys and demos so maybe something similar could be in the works for the Trophy system.

Until Sony makes some kind of announcement this is going to have to join the house of rumors along with the Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive. Even so, the possibilities are rather exciting.
