Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People Episode 3, Baddest of the Bands is now out for the PC and Wii. As always, it involves Strong Bad destroying the lives of everyone around him for his own benefit.

In this episode, Strong Bad’s video game system, aka “the fun machine,” breaks down. Oh nos! So he brings it to Bubs to get fixed. Bubs tells him that it will cost a ton of money, which of course SB doesn’t have. So the only logical way he sees to raise the money is to hold a “baddest of the bands” concert.

So in the first part of the game, you have to convince bands to join you. After getting the bands to sign up, you realize that you still won’t have enough money to fix the game system, so you have to win the contest yourself. Only problem is, your band sucks. You get the idea.

Are you ready to rock?!

First off, this episode brings back a lot of old Homestar Runner cameos including Marzipan’s band, Cool Tapes and the band Limozeen, who are guest judges in SB’s concert. (Check out Strong Mad’s closet for another cameo.)

I love that these games have two separate events. First you have to solve this problem, then a whole new problem pops up. It keeps the game interesting and you don’t feel like it ends too soon. The puzzles in this one could be difficult at times but if you thought about it long enough it would eventually come to you.

Fortunately, they fixed the metal detector aspect of the game. In the last game they decided to just let you endlessly look around for an item without knowing if there even was one. In this game they fixed it, so now if there is nothing in the area SB will say something, rather than just let you search.

Also, instead of boxes laying around, they give you a “rock out” microphone. When you use it, boxes will magically appear out of thin air. The boxes only appeared in certain places of course. Very strange.

Rocking has it’s limits

So you can finally go into Strong Mad’s room and Marzipans house, which is cool but rather underwhelming. Marzipan’s house consists of one room and, for some reason, you can’t even go into the kitchen because she boarded it up. The only thing you can do in the room is listen to her answering machine which doesn’t even have any prank calls from SB, so it’s not even worth checking.

I always complain about the lackluster mini-games in these episodes but I can’t complain in this episode because there are NO mini-games! You can’t play your fun machine because it’s broken (though you can play when you fix it but you have to beat the game for that) and they turned Teen Girl Squad into part of a puzzle, so you can’t play that anymore either.

It is especially hard to find any items in the episode. The microphone is a cute feature, but you have to be in the right spot or else the box won’t appear. Plus, once you get to the second part of the game, you are strictly at the concert stages so you can’t backtrack to find the items you missed until you get to extended play.

Still rocking my friend

So, as always, the bad does not out-way the good and this game is still awesome. Despite the lack of mini-games and hard to find extras, Telltale Games succeeded once again in making a fun, hilarious game for the whole family! Well most of the family.

Each episode is slowly unlocking elements that were not accessible in the last game. I am excited to see what will be available in the next game – maybef Marzipan’s house or even Homestar’s house? Hopefully you will be able to do more in them, too.

This game is not only was fun to play but, because of the cameos, it made me want to go visit the site again to remind myself the origin of some of these events. Definitely check out this installment of this awesome series.
