Get ready for some mighty impressive numbers – Bethesda’s epic apocalyptic RPG Fallout 3 has shipped 4.7 million copies and made a cool $300 million in sales in its very first week. Bolstered by strong reviews, a respectable pedigree (Bethesda was behind the excellent Elder Scrolls games), and seriously cool open-ended gameplay, the game is a remarkable success for an ambitious, relatively hardcore RPG.
1Up reported that the sales numbers represent all three versions of the game (which was released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3), and we’ll soon know which version was the most profitable.
Looks like all that vault boy swag was worth it. I’m personally too broke to afford all the amazing gaming goodness of this fall season – but you can bet I’ll be knee deep in the wastelands once the opportunity comes knocking.
