So how did you feel about the announcement Blizzard made regarding their upcoming sequel to the decade old and still selling RTS game, Starcraft II, would be split up into three games, or at least one game and two expansions? Did you not care? Are you one of those players that only cares for the multiplayer experience? What about those that do enjoy Starcraft’s story? What was the first thing you thought about?

My money (no pun intended) is that you thought Blizzard was at it again with a new scheme to nickel and dime players. Well, Blizzard COO, Paul Sams, begs to differ and speaking with Videogamer.com makes his point clear (or at least tries):

The fact of the matter is, it’s absolutely, positively untrue about us trying to stretch it out and milk it. People think that it was a monetary driven decision. I can absolutely, positively tell you, with 100 per cent certainty, that that was not part of the conversation. I guarantee it. I give my word. There was never, ever a conversation where we said, ‘let’s do this because we’re going to make more money’. I guarantee it. As a matter of fact the sole reason we did it was because we thought it was going to be a better experience. Anybody that says otherwise is not correct. It is absolutely not what we did it for.

So if you thought that this was all about money, you’re “not correct,” GOT IT!?

Though it probably will fail to change your minds, you at least have to respect the man for trying so hard and so many times to “guarantee” that Blizzard wouldn’t do such a thing.

Let’s face it, chances are gamers, though angry, are probably standing by with currency in hand to pay for the three volumes. Let’s just hope they can stand the annual wait between each one.
