xbox live logoMicrosoft is clearly doing whatever they can to make sure that gamers have the opportunity to witness their New Xbox Experience.

The company has announced that it will be conducting a sweepstakes that will reward prospective winners with Microsoft Points that can be used towards Xbox Live Marketplace purchases. The grand prize winner will obtain 500,000 points (US$6,247.50 value).

That amounts to having enough to purchase more than half the Xbox Live Arcade library and more than enough to attain every song from both the Rock Band and Guitar Hero series of games and still have points left over. The current total value of all Xbox Live Marketplace content is more than 756,000 (approx. $94456, according to MPSConverter)

Other prizes being offered in this contest include five first prizes of 50,000 points ($624.75), 10 second prizes of 10,000 points ($124.95) and 30 third prizes of 5,000 points$62.48).

Entering this appealing contest will require players to register their Gamertags by downloading the “Download and Win” gamer picture. Fortunately, participating in this process is free.

Once players acquire the gamer picture, they have to purchase an item from the Live Marketplace between 6:01 AM (PST) on November 19, 2008, and 11:59PM (PST) on November 23, 2008. The purchase will only be effective if it is made from one of the five categories listed below:

  • Movies
  • TV Shows
  • Xbox Live Arcade Game
  • Xbox Original
  • Downloadable Content for a Game
  • Music Video

In an interesting twist, gamers can increase their chances of winning by purchasing multiple items at a time, with the maximum amount that gamers can obtain being ten. This keeps with Microsoft’s philosophy of “the more you buy, the better it will turn out for you in the long run.”

This sounds like an interesting contest and one that I can’t wait to enter. The only disappointing aspect is that most gamers have as much of a chance of winning those 500,000 points as Bush does of saving the U.S. from its economic slump.
