For me (and I think, a majority of gamers) Thanksgiving weekend is prime gaming time. Think about it – lots of folks have the long weekend, and aside from Black Friday shopping and maybe a round of football in the yard, there’s no real reason to go outside for four days. Plus – the Wii was tailor-made for these family events, so busting out the party games is an awesome, socially acceptable way to get some game time in. That is… unless you have an addict in your midst.
This year, I made the decision (mistake?) of bringing Boom Blox to the people – the people being myself, my sister and her boyfriend. We played so much of this game that we actually needed to switch out the Wii-mote batteries several times over the course of two days. We played co-op. We played competitive. We spent hours and hours pouring over the tougher single player puzzles, aiming to get golds on every stage. My sister enjoyed all the co-op and competitive stuff, and she held her own (especially for a non-gamer), but was she ever annoyed at all the time we spent on the single player game.
My mother even suggested a twelve-step program. It was that bad. And my lord, it was that glorious. It’s so rare that I get to sink that deep into a game – especially a game as pure as Boom Blox, which is nothing but physics and clever, challenging puzzle structures. In the later stages, the game is all gameplay and angles and velocity – and it’s ever so rewarding to figure out the gold solutions.
I suppose no one should be shocked at the time we clocked in – after all, last Thanksgiving was the great three day binge of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, in which myself, my sister’s boyfriend and my boyfriend at the time literally passed the controller around as we hunted for every last ghost and bug in the game. Good times.
What did you play this weekend?

When Thanksgiving weekend rolled around, I knew that I'd be spending my holidays planted on the couch playing my newest game: The Last Remnant.
I've been trying to pile through it since Wednesday night. I think I've been averaging about 4 to 6 hours a day and I still feel like I've only just scratched the surface.
Happy Gaming!
