You know that the end of the year is the time for many things – gift buying, game-marathon sessions, about two trillion awesome releases – and finally, lists! Who doesn’t love a good list – and GameDaily has the granddaddy of all things nostalgia and Nintendo. In the spirit of the holiday season, or hell, just happy memories, they’ve published a list of the top 25 Nintendo memories.
As a long-time gamer weaned on Nintendo systems and titles, I’ve got a few favorites on this list. Among the best are: 23. Taking out three opponents at the same time (Super Smash Bros./various platforms); 18. Using two warp whistles to beat Super Mario Bros. 3 (Super Mario Bros. 3/NES) (hell yeah!); 10. Playing the Ocarina (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Nintendo 64); 7. Baby Metroid to the rescue (Super Metroid/SNES); and my personal favorite, 1. Discovering Samus Aran is a woman (Metroid/NES). Oh man… the memories…
And I’ll add a couple of my own: The first time I put the controller down in Donkey Kong Country just to listen to the amazing music, getting 120 stars in Mario 64, and playing through the Jabu’s Belly dungeon in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. What are your favorite Nintendo memories?
