Dissidia tentatively dated for North America

Well, my day is officially made. Square Enix has just announced that yes, of course they’ll be bringing Dissidia: Final Fantasy to North America, and we should all be expecting it by the middle of 2009. Sure, there was probably never any doubt it would receive a worldwide release, but its good to see that it will be coming to us fairly quickly.

In Dissidia, we learn that there is trouble between the goddess of harmony Cosmos and the god of discord Chaos. A war has always been brewing between them, but it was natural and no problem, since the two sides possessed an equal amount of power. But now, Chaos’ army of warriors has proved stronger than the force summoned by Cosmos. Players must step in as well known Final Fantasy characters to fight and restore the balance. It turns out that Limit Breaks and Overdrives will return as EX Bursts and that you will also be able to summon Aeons to assist your fighter during a battle.

I’m so incredibly pleased with the idea of Dissidia. I think its because I loved Ehrgeiz. Yes, I know Ehrgeiz was kind of cheesy and there were much, much better fighters, but it let you fight as Turk Vincent! And Yuffie, Zack, Tifa, Cloud and Sephiroth! Plus, the cheesiness kind of made it more fun.
