Ouch – some seriously bad news out of EA today. The mega-publisher has decided to close down Black Box, the developer behind the Skate and Need for Speed franchises. Additionally, the company will reportedly be laying off 600-1,000 jobs across the board, all according to 1up. And the crappy news continues – Black Box is reportedly only one of the studios facing the proverbial chopping block – according to the post, the studio is “is one of ‘at least nine studio and publishing locations’ that will be either consolidating or closing.”
This is getting crazy, with all the layoffs in our supposedly “recession-proof” industry – yeah, right. Best of luck to everyone who’s just gone jobless for this merry holiday season.
