While Sony’s Playstation 3 has had something of a rough time making its presence known in the console wars, 2008 can be regarded as a time where the system’s Playstation Store made good on its promise to deliver quality content that distinguished it from the pack.
Games including Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty and PixelJunk Monsters, both of which were released this year (2008), successfully highlighted the strength of Sony’s exclusives and its commitment to delivering products that are unable to be found anywhere else.
It is ironic then, that with all the new releases that came this year, the most popular PSN (Playstation Network) game is one that came out in 2007.
The holiday episode of Sony’s Pulse detailed the full list of popular PSN games, and Pain, which saw release on November 19, 2007, took the top spot. Super Stardust HD, another title released in 2007, also made its way onto the top 3.
Here’s the complete list of titles:

This is an interesting list which shows that PSN players have a distinct variety of tastes in genres. However, I wonder what happened to titles such as Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Mega Man 9 and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo: HD Remix. Games like these should have found their place on this list, considering their positive reception. However, Pain was only given lukewarm commentary by reviewers.
Either way, this list does show what PSN players are into at the moment, so Happy Downloads and Happy Holidays!
