The press release does confirm that not only will players step into the shoes of established doctors on the Grey’s Anatomy tv show, performing typical doctor duties (treating patients, performing surgery, etc.), they will also be building relationships with the other doctors. So, perhaps if things go well, it could be part Trauma Center and part The Sims.
Yet somehow, I can’t help but be reminded of the lackluster ER video game from Vivendi that came out way back in 2005. Like Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game, it was based on a popular medical drama, let players perform typical doctor duties and had players build relationships with doctors from the show. Somehow, I get the feeling that Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game could end up being a more polished and newer iteration of the ER game. Actually, Grey’s Anatomy: The Video Game reminds me a bit of Desperate Housewives: The Game too!
If a game based on a TV medical drama is going to be made, it should be a House game. Wait, I take that back. Don’t make a video game based on House. I love that show too much. I don’t want to see it cheapened by the network and a video game company’s attempt to cash in.
