Uncharted 2
Uncharted 2 will continue in the vein of its predecessor by hunting down treasure while following the trail of a famous explorer. This time, Drake will work to solve mysteries surrounding the famous explorer Marco Polo. One aspect of the game that is different this time around is the stealth mechanic that’s being introduced. It adds more variety to the gameplay, but the player isn’t forced to be stealthy. For those who want to mix it up between playing it safe and going in guns blazing, the game director for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Bruce Straley spoke to CVG about the investigation and hunt behaviors the enemy will possess.

The investigate mode is when enemies are not fully aware of Drake’s presence. They possess peripheral vision, which makes it a little more challenging for players to sneak by them. If caught within their peripheral vision, the enemies will investigate what they think they saw or ignore it altogether. It all depends on how long Drake was in their field of vision. They’ll check the last place they think Drake may have been, then resume their normal behavior.

The hunt mode is activated when the enemies have seen Drake and is actively pursuing him. If you try to hide, the enemies will check your last known location and will continue to search until you are found. They can even traverse the landscape like Drake can. Jumping from ledge to ledge in order to get away from the enemy won’t work this time around. Drake’s enemies will climb and leap until they are stopped.

Uncharted 2 is shaping up to be a game that can benefit from different styles of play. Look for it to be released sometime in 2009.
