Rumor: New GTA game by year’s end

Grand Theft Auto IV has been out for less than a year and is probably the best game in the series so far. It goes without saying that we will eventually see a sequel to the game, but we never expected it to be this soon. PSU is quoting issue 190 of Game Informer that talks about a new game in the GTA universe looking to be released by the end of 2009.

The article says the new game is a full game and not just downloadable content. It will be set up as side stories much like GTA: Vice City and San Andreas were. There aren’t any specific details about the game but Tokyo is a possible setting.

Tokyo would follow the environment that will be set by the forthcoming GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS. It is also interesting how initial sequels to GTA games come out within a year of each other whenever it’s introduced to a new console. Vice City was released in 2002 – one year after GTA III and Vice City Stories was released on the PSP in 2006 after Liberty City Stories came out in 2005.
