Here’s one piece of news I never could’ve predicted: the ever-so-opinionated 1Up/EGM editor Shane Bettenhausen has joined developer Ignition Entertainment after leaving 1Up. The super-knowledgeable (and uber-competitive) ex-journo will now be the Director of Business Development for the small developer/publisher (best known for the fairly awesome Mercury Meltdown titles). He’ll be making all sorts of high level decisions, including what games the company will publish, according to Go Nintendo.
From the official press release, here’s a quote from the man-god (you know, Shane’s nickname from 1UP Yours):
“I’ve spent the past nine years dissecting and evaluating games as a journalist, and I’m incredibly eager and humbled to finally get the chance to learn the other side of the business. I’m tremendously excited to help shape the direction of Ignition’s future products, and I feel that together, we’ll be able to craft experiences that entertain, challenge, and emotionally impact gamers.”
I have no doubt Shane will do a great job. As my semi-favorite 1Up yours host for the last 3 years, I’m both sad to see the man go, and glad he’ll be in a good position in the industry. Via con Dios, man-god.
