Sony Chairman Hirari still confident PS3 will finish first

Considering Sony’s languishing location in the console race, the fact that it is still harboring thoughts of console domination seems laughable.

That remains the case, however, if these reports from CVG are to be believed. Sony Computer Entertainment’s chairman Kaz Hirari made it clear that, regardless of sales numbers or other statistical measures, Sony would hold firm to its leadership position in the console video games industry.

Continuing with his remarks, Hirari also had some disparaging words for the Xbox 360, labeling it a machine that “lacks longevity,” an understandable statement when one considers that Sony’s consoles have historically lasted longer than Microsoft’s offerings.

However, these words do little to endear Sony into the hearts of gamers, considering their rank in the console wars. Interestingly, Sony had even less kind words for Nintendo. While Hirari at least recognizes Microsoft as a competitor, he outright dismisses the makers of the Wii.

“It’s difficult to talk about Nintendo because we don’t look at their console as being competitors. They’re a different world and we operate in our world – that’s kind of the way I look at things,” Hirari said to Official Playstation Magazine.

These words clearly establish that, whether you love or loathe them, Sony always regards itself as a top-shelf company that is capable of delivering top-shelf products.

Of course, all of that talk has done little to help its current situation. More time spent fixing their current mistakes would go a long way to remedying its current situation.
