Plain Sight
Plain Sight, one of the coolest independent games of 2009, has just entered the open beta phase. This is only a temporarily open beta though, it only lasts until February 8, 2009. So you better make the best of it and start now if you want to experience everything.

The premise of Plain Sight is pretty simple – you kill other robots to get points and make yourself bigger and stronger. The catch is that you have to kill yourself once you’ve gotten an admirable amount of points in order to keep them and get bigger. But, if one of the other robots in the area kills you before you get the chance to kill yourself, you lose all of your hard earned points.

It’s that little trick that makes the game that much more challenging and addicting. The open beta isn’t perfect – Beatnik games has made sure to mention that there will be much, much more to the full release. More of what? Everything! More levels and environments to explore, more modes to play in and more power-ups to make the game even better than it already is. And, after a quick sampling of Plain Sight‘s open beta, I have to say that the game is already pretty awesome.

A release date for the full game hasn’t been announced yet. However, it looks like we can expect it on PCs in the first portion of 2009, and expect to pay $10. It also will be coming to the Xbox 360 as well. Check out the About page at the Plain Sight site for the release information and a really cool comic explaining the point of the game.
