There’s a long wait ahead of us, but at least we all know that by the end of 2009, North American DS owners will have their own Phantasy Star installment. Phantasy Star Ø (pronounced Phantasy Star Zero) has been confirmed by Sega. I guess you could even consider it the first DS massive multiplayer online game.
There is a single player adventure in Phantasy Star Ø, where players will have to protect the universe as a hunter, who works with other hunters to take out monsters. I’m sure there’s some sort of other, larger plot at play in the Story Mode as well.
But, the Multiplayer Modes, which make use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, are the main draw of the game. You can go online and either work alone or team up with random people or friends to take on quests and become stronger. You get to make your character using three races (human, newman or CAST), either gender and a selection of classes. You get to communicate with your party members by using Visual Chat on the touch screen, a method of communication almost identical to the DS’s built in PictoChat.
If you have access to Wi-Fi, then Phantasy Star Ø is going to be a must have game.

Boo!! It's such a long wait….I'm not sure which I should get: the PSP version or the DS one…hmmmm. Choices, choices.
Does the PSP one have Wi-Fi multiplayer? I thought it only had ad-hoc multiplayer.
I think I'm gonna go for the DS one, since I tend to play my DS more.
