Developer Sensory Sweep (Jackass: The Game and The Tale of Despereaux) stood accused of not paying its 200 employees since October 2008, leading the Department of Labor to get involved and resolve the issue. Now Kotaku reports current and former employees are to be paid through a consent injunction ordered by a federal judge.
Under that agreement, Sensory Sweep must place two-thirds of the proceeds from shipping a game to a publisher into an account used to pay back wages. Sensory Sweep also has to clear any product deliveries with the Salt Lake wage and hour office of the Department of Labor. There will be an amended consent injunction that specifies the total amounts Sensory Sweep needs to pay and the parties it needs to pay to. That will be filed by February 9, 2009. An affidavit the wage and hour investigator in this case filed estimated the amount at more than $2 million.
It’s a testament to just how the bad the current economy is when you can fail to pay employees for two or three months and you actually still have employees left. With all the layoffs going on right now, I guess a lot of employees were just willing to take their chances here. Here’s hoping this economy turns around soon.
