The open beta of Runes of Magic is ending soon, but not too soon. Frogster Interactive has stated that the free-to-play MMORPG will officially launch on March 19, 2009. The open beta began back on December 15, 2008, and closed betas were going on throughout 2008. Since the betas were so popular, drawing in over 450,000 players, it looks like the official launch of the game will be bright as well.
This means that, when Runes of Magic launches, practically every promised feature will be available. The dual class system will be in play, there’ll be over 1,000 quests to undertake, no zone boundaries in areas, customizable skills, special sets of armor to collect and wear, runes to upgrade equipment, PvP battles, player ranking, creatures you can ride, homes for players, reputations to build, in-game auctions, a perfected map, teleporting runes and the ability to move via the mouse or keyboard. The special zone guild houses still aren’t complete yet, and of course Add-Ons haven’t been created and there probably won’t be any initial new content, since the game’s just starting, but those things will come in time.
If you haven’t been taking part in the open beta, or perhaps you did, got bored and left, you may want to return. After all, official launches not only feature the perfected and complete game, but often have special events. New and returning players may find things to draw them into the game. No launch events have been announced yet, but I’m sure there’ll be some sort of celebration.
