UPDATE: The release dates reported in this post are not confirmed. The writer used EBGames site for both Final Fantasy Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days which indicated (and still do as of 7:45 pm ET, February 11, 2009) the shipping dates for both games as 8/31/2009. As sales sites sometimes use proposed, speculative or nonsense dates to get a game into the site’s system or to allow for preorders, this was an honest mistake.

It’s music to my ears to finally hear that two of the most highly anticipated portable games of 2009 have finally received US release dates. Get ready to mark August 31, 2009, (Monday) on your calendar because Square Enix is scheduled to release both Final Fantasy Dissidia (Sony PSP) and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (Nintendo DS).
Both of these games will be offered at premium price tag of $39.99 and popular game retailers everywhere are always happy to accept your money for games that they don’t even have in stock yet, otherwise known as the mighty pre-order.

While these games are nice distractions from the volatile situation that is the release date for Final Fantasy XIII (including all of its associated incarnations), it would have been nice if Square Enix could have more evenly paced these releases apart. There’s a huge gap between the releases of Square Enix’s other big titles in March 2009(i.e. Final Fantasy Crystal Cronicles: Echoes of Time, Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) and these portable titles. I guess Square Enix figures that between all of the gaming experiences that it’s offering its market in February and March, it would take around 4 months just to clear out your gaming cache in order to make time for Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts.
Even so, I’m still giddy as a school girl over the fact that I’ll finally be able to play a game that stars Roxas. Having said that, I just realized that both of the screen shots I included with this update contain blondes Roxas and Tidus. It would seem that I have a soft spot for young blonde-haired, blue-eyed boys. Ah, be still, my heart.
