As the fourth and final season of the hit Sci-Fi Channel series, Battlestar Galactica is coming to its conclusion, the next series was already in the works long before season 4.5 got underway.
Now fans will get to see Caprica much sooner than the original 2010 release date as Universal Studios Home Entertainment announced that the Battlestar Galactica prequel will be released exclusively to DVD on April 21, 2009, for $26.98.
Originally slated to be a miniseries, which may or may not be picked up for a full season, Caprica is set 50 years before the events of the current series. It was later announced that it would indeed be turned into a television series, set to premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel some time in 2010.
The series isn’t going to be as action packed as BSG but more of a drama in space mixed in with a little Terminator. It tells the story of two rival families, the Graystones, who are advancing artificial AI to new levels, and the Adamas, who stand against the idea of what this new discovery can bring to the human race – obviously foreshadowing the First Cylon War.
Caprica stars veteran actors Eric Stoltz (Mask, Pulp Fiction), Esai Morales (NYPD Blue, Jericho) and Polly Walker (HBO’s Rome).
