gamecyte logoAnother fellow video game site has fallen prey to the fangs of this global economic, recession, er, downturn.

The latest is GameCyte, a site similar to ours in that it also wrote about the wonderment of video games and gaming culture. It’s certainly sad to see another game site go.

According to a post on the site, three writers were “quietly shed” January 2009 and “the rest of GameCyte will now follow.” The site will remain online as an archive so you can still enjoy all the game-related goodness it had to offer.

Here’s an email sent from the site’s now former editor, Sean Hollister, on March 9, 2009:

Dear friends, colleagues, associates, acquaintances, fellow journalists and PR professionals,

I’m sorry to inform you that GameCyte is currently experiencing a phenomenon called “imminent doom,” and I am now without job accordingly. It was lovely while it lasted, and I can say with utmost sincerity that the best part of the job was interacting with all of you.

I have not yet found new employment in games journalism; but since I very much intend to, I don’t want to lose track of you fine ladies and gentlemen during the transition [personal contact information removed].

Best wishes for a speedy global recession!

Sean
