10 Square Enix ports and remakes we wouldn’t mind seeing

The Chrono Trigger DS port, Final Fantasy Legend II DS remake and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years Wii port are Square Enix’s most recent resurrections of popular games. The company has no problem milking successful Square or Enix games in an attempt to make more money and saturate the market with its products.

Fans accept this action for the most part. It gives gamers who’ve never had the opportunity to play the original games to experience classics, and gives fans an updated and (hopefully) improved version of one of their favorite games.

Gamertell’s compiled a list of 10 games, five from Square and five from Enix, that are due for a remake or port.

Square:

• Live A Live (SNES): Live A Live never received a US release. Time to right that wrong! Give this unique game that ties together adventures in eight different “worlds” in one epic story. At the very least, a Virtual Console release would be much appreciated.
• Romancing SaGa 2 (SNES): Yet another Square classic that never made it outside of Japan, Romancing SaGa 2 lets players control a kingdom over many generations, picking a successor after each time period has ended. Since Final Fantasy Legend II, aka SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu is getting a DS remake, it’d be nice to see another SaGa as well.
• Secret of Evermore (SNES): While Secret of Evermore was praised as a great game, it wasn’t very popular at the time. Now that Square-Enix’s one of the biggest developers and publishers, I can’t help thinking that this game would attract a larger audience.
• Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (SNES): In my mind, there is only one Mario RPG, and that’s the one created by Square for the SNES. The Virtual Console release was nice, but a remastered DS port, perhaps with extra features and characters, would be even better.
• Another Mind (PSX): It’d probably be a pain to localize, but Another Mind has a lot of potential. The game has the player acting as the inner voice for a young woman who was just in a car accident. You put together sentences and phrases to influence her actions and the direction the story takes.

Enix:

• Star Ocean: Blue Sphere (GBC): As of now, Star Ocean: Blue Sphere, the direct sequel to Star Ocean: The Second Story/Star Ocean: Second Evolution, is the only entry in the series to never be released outside of Japan. The Game Boy Color is dead, but Square Enix could always polish it up a bit and release it on the DS.
• Bust A Groove (PSX): When Bust a Groove was originally released, rhythm games were a niche genre. Now, it’s one of the most popular game categories. A PSP port could see a lot of love. Make sure the original music is left in! The campy lyrics help make it a classic.
• Terranigma (SNES): Terranigma was released in Japan and Europe, but never the US. Players are tasked with restoring and resurrecting life on Earth. There’s an interesting twist to it though. It’d be nice to finally be able to see this RPG on a US system.
• Illusion of Gaia (SNES): The somewhat simple controls,straightforward approach and gameplay aspects would make this an ideal game for beginning RPG gamers. A DS remake would work well, as would a Virtual Console port.
• Mischief Makers (N64): It’s made by Treasure, which is a definite point in this platformer’s favor. A remake is likely out of the question, but a Virtual Console port isn’t. A port with the midi music replaced by a new soundtrack would be wonderful. The more I think about it, perhaps a sequel might be a better option.
