Gears iPhone, iPod Touch app lets you track user activity on Steam

Steam has become the place to go to download PC games and become a part of a big gaming community at the same time. There’s not really a lot of ways to check up on your friend’s stats or games they’ve been playing without sitting down in front of the console or a computer. Thanks to a new iPhone and iPod Touch app called Gears you can keep up on mostly everything in the Steam community from the palm of your hand.

Gears is broken into profile, friends, games and search sections. Your profile tells you how long you’ve been a Steam member as well as your current status and bi-weekly gameplay stats. You can also view the games you’ve been playing and pull up information on games themselves. You can do the same thing to people on your friends list or search for friends on Steam you may have forgotten about. Your friends information is updated automatically so you can stay on top of their most recent activity. One of the best features in Gears is the ability to purchase games right from your phone.

If you happen to own an Android powered phone and not an iPhone GearsApp Twitter page suggests and Android compatible app is not out of the question. You can purchase Gears from iTunes for $2.99.
