E3 2009: Koei to debut two new games in its E3 lineup

Koei’s just announced what games it’ll be bringing to the party that is E3 2009. The funny thing is, only one of the games is a Koei staple you’d expect to see. I don’t know about others, but I expected Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors and Gundam, not Zill O’ll, Warriors: Legends of Troy and Monster Racers.

E3 2009 is going to be a hallmark for Koei. For the first time, the company is going to debut new games in North America. Typically, all new Koei games first appear in Japan. It’s a real honor, and another thing that will make E3 2009 special.

Let’s look through the games Koei’s announced they’re bringing:

Monster Racers
Platform: DS
Tentative Release Date: 2009
Genre: Racing / RPG
Description: We first heard about Monster Racers almost a year ago, and now we’ll finally get to see more about it. It’s a racing, action, pet raising and collecting game. You collect and train monsters, and then you race them.

Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll
Platform: PS3
Tentative Release Date: TBA
Genre: RPG
Description: For the first time, the Zill O’ll series is going to be released outside of Japan. Based on the name, it is most likely that Trinity: Souls of Zill O’ll is a localization of Trinity Zill O’ll Zero, since the PS2 game is Zill O’ll Infinite and the PSP game is Zill O’ll Infinite Plus. Little information has been revealed, but perhaps if it is successful, Koei will localize the PSP game as well.

Warriors: Legends of Troy
Platform: TBA
Tentative Release Date: TBA
Genre: TBA
Description: Koei’s press release is tight-lipped concerning Warriors: Legends of Troy. All it says is, and I quote, “Three thousand years ago, a poet sang of heroes strong enough to stand alone against an army. For love, they sailed the world. For family, they made the greatest sacrifices. For honor, they stood and faced the will of gods, and fought a war which shook the earth…” Perhaps we’re looking at a new console strategic or action RPG.

Warriors Orochi 2
Platform: PSP
Tentative Release Date: 2009
Genre: Action
Description: The PSP port of the 2008 PS2 and Xbox 360 game that combined Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors is going to be shown off at E3 2009. The port includes 96 characters, new scenarios to play through, new game modes (Dream, VS and Survival), a tag team VS mode and multiplayer VS and co-op play.
