red steel 2 art imageOne of the big games highlighted by both Ubisoft and Nintendo at this year’s E3 was Red Steel 2, a sequel to the Wii launch title Red Steel.

A Wii exclusive, it’s a first-person-action-game where you wield a sword and pistol, blocking bullets with your katana, hacking and slashing opponents and firing precision shots using the Nunchuk attachment. You’ll fight up to six opponents at once with one-to-one control of your katana thanks to the WiiMotionPlus attachment.

Ubisoft’s E3 video showed a close-up first-person view of ground kills as well as leaping moves while swiping at opponents in the air.

The game is set in a very hot and dusty American Wild West, “where Eastern culture and Western culture has been smashed together.”

Red Steel 2 is promised to be available for Christmas 2009, rated “Teen” by the ESRB and developed by Ubisoft Paris. It will be bundled with the WiiMotionPlus attachment.

From the press release to describe the story:

You are a lonesome fighter, a man of few words with a shaded past full of mystery. One day, you come back to town, to find the members of your clan murdered.

Your only duty now is to discover the truth about this slaughter and take revenge. You’ll have to defeat the wicked plans of the Warlord who has slaughtered your friends and taken control of the city.

Face various, and increasingly stronger, enemies and defeat challenging bosses in epic and intense fights.
