Titled Spider-man: Turn off the Dark, the musical will include an origin story that, according to the web site, is “both recognizable and unexpected, yielding new character as well as familiar faces until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero’s journey.” Specific villains and the final cast are not yet listed on the site.
The musical will feature music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge (of U2 fame) and a story by Glen Berger and Julie Taymor (The Lion King on Broadway, who is also directing it).
American Express card members are able to pre-order ticks beginning June 24, 2009, and tickets go on sale to the rest of the world September 12, 2009.
Update June 9, 2009 – Marvel is offering a Fan Pre-Sale from now until June 23, 2009. There are two ways to pre-order:
Call 877-250-2929 and mention code SPIDEY

The show opens Thursday, February 18, 2010, at Broadway’s Hilton Theatre (213 West 42nd Street, New York, NY). Preview performances begin Saturday, January 16, 2010. Think Stan Lee will have a cameo?
Considering the talent involved so far it’s unlikely this will get panned as hard as the 1966 Superman musical, It’s a Bird… It’s a Plane… or be as campy as the much more recent Star Wars: The Musical
Now if they’ll just start making high-end Broadway musicals based on video games…
