The head of Activision Bobby Kotick has expressed his concern over the price of the PS3 and how he was disappointed a price drop wasn’t announced at E3, but we never though he’d go this far. In an interview with The Times Kotick threatened to cease making games for all Sony platforms because the costs are bad for business.
Kotick says the selling momentum of the PS3 is slowing down and it costs more to develop games for the PS3 than it does for Xbox 360 and Wii. Compared to games on the Xbox 360 and Wii, the PS3 doesn’t make a large enough profit to make up for the money it takes to create games on the console. Kotick reasons the PS3 must have a price drop because the number of games a consumer buys for the system will begin to decrease, and as a result, Activision profits will decrease as well.
Kotick says his company will consider its future relationship with Sony after looking at 2010 and 2011.
In response to Kotick’s statements, a SCEE representative told VG247 it respects the opinion of third parties but are not commenting on what Kotick said at this time.
Can you imagine a world where Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, games based in the Marvel Universe and original intellectual properties would cease to exist on Sony consoles? The loss of Activision would be devastating to Sony, and we can bet the two companies will come to an agreement before the worst happens.

i was kinda hoping sony would have answered with a big "screw you" considering Call of Duty is the only good game they make in my opinion, and sony has other games not as good, but along the same lines as COD. some actually argue Killzone 2 is better online, i personally own killzone 2 and didnt play it for more than an hour before i popped in COD 5 again, needless to say if activision quit making games for PS3 i could care less. someone needs to kick kotick in the kotick. sorry to say but i love my ps3. after a long uphill battle with microsoft and having 4 systems not work or die within a few weeks, i was finally glad to get a system that i know will turn on tonight when i get off work so i can play. they are already making call of duty modern warefare 2 on ps3, so i will then have a world war and present day COD game, i have all i need, bye activision, have a nice life, i hope when or if ps3 comes back on top they dont let you back in since like a relationship, if you are not in when times are bad, you shouldnt be in when times are hard either, and if you dont want my money becuase i own a PS3, then i will be glad not to give you any, just becuase your develpment team sucks and has problems making a game for sony, dont rip sony a new one, maybe you should educate your team. Besthesda, square-enix, capcom…they dont have problems making games for ps3…of course they are way better companies than yours, even if some like Bethesda are smaller..they are of higher quality when they produce something. I am deeply gratefull for the time such companies put in to their work just like i am at the COD series, but its not enough for me to go buy a crapbox 360 again, so i will be one less person to design games for you. besides, sony doesnt need to lower their price becuase it is cheaper than the 360 once you add wireless adapter, controller charge kits, live membership and your liftime game of russion roulette with RROD failure. i actually saved 100 when i bought my "more expensive" ps3 and i got a system with few flaws, none of which will cuase me to lose my system. im happy with my system, why are you complaining, becuase you cant afford one? anyhow, i hope you do leave the ps3 alone, atleast then we would have less crappy games to sort through, though i will miss COD, i am sure i will find a replacement that offers the same fun and online play, though i doubt you really have the cahones to follow through, you are just complaining and trying to play the big dog in the public eye, i get it, but sony will not be bullied, they will lower prices when they think it is a beneficial business descision, not when some idiot demands it becuase he cant hire more reliable workers to develop games for an advanced console. i could understand your complaint if you had a company who actually had more than 1 or 2 good games, but you dont…so please, let the door hit you on the way out, and dont come back. i would rather give my money to professional game developers.
