Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was, by most accounts, a completely awesome game. Released on the DS last March, critics loved the gritty, comical portable version of everyone’s favorite open world series, though it didn’t sell well – at all. According to 1Up, Rockstar will release the title on PSP this fall, in hopes of boosting sales on the presumably slightly older-skewing handheld.
The new version will be optimized for Sony’s platform, with “new story missions” and enhanced graphics. No doubt something may be lost in translation with the lack of touch screen support (hot wiring cars was fun!), but somehow, I think it’ll be just fine without it.
So what do we think, readers? Was this always in the works, or were the poor sales the impetus for bringing this baby to the PSP? It’s completely unclear from the press release, so get your conspiracy theories ready. It’s a great little game either way, so if you’re a platform agnostic, you may want to give this a shot this fall. No specific release date has been named, so stay tuned.
