Today was not a good day to be a celebrity – not long after it was confirmed that actress/advocate Farrah Fawcett had died, the shocking news came that Michael Jackson (the “King of Pop”) had died suddenly. He was 50.
In remembrance of the entertainer, 1Up has listed all of the videogames that Jackson’s been involved with over the years. It’s a fairly impressive list (and complete with some very cool videos) spanning everything from the arcade to the Genesis (remember Moonwalker?) to more recent homages to the King – including a truly excellent “Thriller” recreation made in LittleBigPlanet.
I have to say that my happiest MJ game memory was from Space Channel 5 – the Dreamcast’s trippiest (and most retro-fantastic) dancing game. MJ himself made a dance cameo towards the end – and it was awesome. Also – Moonwalker was a pretty fantastic game, no matter how crazy the premise sounds.
The world lost a truly great singer and dancer today, and I wish his family the best. While I’m at the RIPs, I’d like to express my gamer condolences to the loved ones of Farrah Fawcett as well. I can’t think of any specific videogame appearances for her – but the hot, badass chick persona that she helped develop as an original Charlie’s Angel was surely an influence on the tough, awesome gals who populate the videogame landscape today. If only Samus could get her hair like Farrah’s.
