DC Comics fans are surely anxious for the release of Sony Online’s newest MMO, DC Universe, to come out on the PC and PS3. I was able to get a look at this awesome title at Comic Con 2009. The game is nowhere near ready to come out yet but here are some specs of the game that were confirmed to give you an idea what to expect.

DC Universe is a Online MMO where you can create your own superhero and fight along side your favorite heroes from DC comics. You can’t play are real super heroes like Batman or the Flash, mainly because this is a massive online game. If you could, then you would see 800 Green Lantern’s running around.

Instead, you can customize your own character including costume and powers. Also, if you find more armor or weapons as you play, you can attach them to your character and it will change the look of the character. You can pick from bottoms and tops and match them up to get the right look you want to make, rather then a super hero with mismatched attire.

Like all MMO’s you can team up with your friends online and complete quests, or just go all out and take out as many villains as you can. Sony is working on allowing the PC and PS3 to work together for online play, which would be nice for those who have friends that don’t own one or the other. You acquire quests by either approaching super hero’s and asking them if they need help, or sometimes they will call you up and ask for you help.

If you are like a lot of MMO players, you probably enjoy being bad once in awhile. So DC Universe also allows you also play the role of the villain. So instead of working alongside Batman, you would work along side the Joker! For instance, in the good role, Batman would call you up and say that Joker is robbing the bank and he needs your help. If you were playing a villain, then instead the Joker would call you up and ask you help him rob the bank.

You can interact with the scenery in game as well. For instance if you are fighting an enemy, you could use your powers to send cars and other debris flying at them or to corner them so you can get a better shot at them.

Every scene in the game is taken directly from a DC comic book and is approved by Jim Lee himself, so you know you will be getting nothing but DC graphics and animation.

Unfortunately, the game still has a lot of kinks to work out, and they still have some things to approve and scenes to create, so they game won’t be coming out anytime soon. Sony Online is shooting for late next year, but again, it is too early to give any sort of release date. I am excited about this title, and I think it will definitely be worth the long wait.
