the sims pink flamingo According to a 30-second NPR brief titled “Pink Flamingos Are ‘Bees Knees’ In Madison, Wisc.” (September 3, 2009), the town has officially made the the plastic flamingo its official bird.

Yep, that’s right. A fake, plastic flamingo that you stick in your yard is the legal, official bird of Madison. Sweet.

Even better, the decision was mad in honor of a 30-year-old college prank involving more than 1,000 of the faux birds (and probably just as many drunk students).

I like that idea so much I’d like to propose a parallel video game designation.

All those who control avatars that can only speak Simlinsh should get together and petition to make the pink flamingo the official bird of The Sims and its many Simcarnations.

Why not? It’s not just a lawn ornament. It adds to the overall happiness of anyone near it as it adds +2 to your outside room score. Heck, they only cost 12 Simoleans each. (If you have the Makin’ Magic expansion, see what you can conjure when by casting the Enchant spell on a pink flamingo.)

So sign below and let’s get the ball rolling. We’ll start pestering EA’s PR department once we get more than 500 pro flamingo comments. If you have a nice configuration of pink flamingos on your Sims lot, send it along and I’ll start a Photo Gallery collection.

BTW: If pink is not your color then you might consider placing an alternatively colored flamingo on your virtual lot. Simply use the download the Sims Transmogrifier and follow an online tutorial to turn your pink birdie any color (or pattern) you like. Of course that does not guarantee all of your Sim neighbors will like it:
