Demon's Souls

If you’re getting set to pick up Atlus’s latest PS3 game, Demon’s Souls, there’s something you should know. Don’t worry! It’s not a delay notification. Atlus has just sent out an advisory letting everyone know that the Demon’s Souls game servers aren’t going to be up and running until October 6, 2009. This means you’ll have to wait until that day to start enjoying the online aspects of the game.

This shouldn’t be too bad, considering that is the official release date for Demon’s Souls. But you know how it can be. Sometimes stores break street date and people end up getting a copy early. If you’re one of those people who maybe gets lucky and gets Demon’s Souls on Monday, October 5, 2009, don’t panic when you can’t get online.

Demon’s Souls makes unique use of the internet. While there are the standard co-op multiplayer modes and player versus player duels, there are some other online interactions which don’t necessarily require you to be online at the same time as other people. For example, when characters die in the game, they leave behind a bloodstain that acts as a record for their death. Other players who are connected to the internet can see the bloodstains and watch how another player died. Also, players can leave hint and tip messages for one another that everyone connected to the internet can see.

Remember, Gamertell reviewed Demon’s Souls back on September 15, 2009. If you’re still on the fence about picking up the game, go back and check out our take on it.
