250 gb ps3 box artToday (October 15, 2009), Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) officially announced that it will be making available a 250 GB PlayStation 3 on November 3, 2009, in the US for the suggested retail price of $349.99.

The increased hard drive is intended to allow PS3 owners to download even more content (which, of course, would mean more digital sales for Sony via PlayStation Store) and personal files.

According to the press release, the 250 GB system will have “the same form factor and functionality as the current 120 GB system” which will continue to be offered this holiday season. The announcement also noted that 600 million “pieces of content have been downloaded from PlayStation Network as of September 2009.”

It’s unclear exactly what a “piece of content” includes. Considering that Sony Home involves a lot of free downloads the company may (or may not) be counting individual avatar garments.

Content soon to be available through the PlayStation store specifically mentioned in the release include the downloadable games PixelJunk Shooter, Gravity Crash and Hustle Kings and the movies Star Trek, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and, Bruno.

  1. Nice… Maybe when FFXIII comes out, I'll splurge and finally get one.
