Bayonetta is probably going to be really, really good (if you believe Famitsu)

Platinum Games’ debut title, Bayonetta, is coming out next week in Japan and, according to Japanese game magazine Famitsu, the game is good.

The first looks at the game are getting perfect scores from different reviewers in Famitsu magazine. This honor had been reserved only for games like Metal Gear 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time so if this is any indication, this game shows a lot of promise.

Bayonetta is a third-person brawler with a style reminiscent of the Devil May Cry franchise. This comes as no surprise since the game is being directed by Hideki Kamiya, director of the original Devil May Cry.

In the game you play as Bayonetta, a witch that battles hordes of foes using guns, melee attacks, magic spells and, uh, her hair. Apparently Bayonetta uses her hair in different types of attacks ranging from punches and kicks to giant dragons. If you’re thinking, “WTF?!” then you’re not alone but, although the premise may sound odd, the game looks really stylish with intense action sequences and huge bosses.

American players will have to wait until early 2010 to get their hands on Bayonetta. The game is rated “Mature” by the ESRB and it’s coming out on Xbox 360 and PS3.

I’ve always been a fan of the Devil May Cry series and after seeing a few videos of this game I’m really looking forward to it.
