PS3 Braid

Next week’s PlayStation Store update is going to feature the critically acclaimed Braid among its many new downloads. Jonathan Blow’s thought-provoking, beautiful and time-controlling action game is finally going to make its debut November 12, 2009. It’s going to cost you $14.99 if you decide to pick it up, which is what the XBox 360 version cost when it debuted back in 2008. While Number None handled the Xbox Live Arcade and Windows versions, Hothead Games was tasked with the Mac and PS3 ports.

Braid is a rather unique platformer. The star, Tim, is journeying through multiple environments and worlds in an attempt to save a princess. Players aren’t given many details of the storyline, and only know that Tim has to reach the princess and make up for a mistake he had made. There are six stages to play through, with each having a distinct theme, time-based power and purpose. The game features tons of puzzles, no threat of death or failure, the ability to skip puzzles and come back to them if you’re stumped and the ability to explore the game’s world at your own pace.

Quite a delay lead up to the PS3 release of Braid. The Xbox 360 version was released way back on August 6, 2008, over a year ago. The Windows PC version came out over seven months ago on April 10, 2009 and the Mac version came out about six months ago on May 20, 2009. I’d say the PS3′s version is way overdue.
